I have five children ages 9 down to 3, and one of their favorite night time activities is to have sleepovers. Last night Jaivin (7) was going to sleep over with Lillee (3), only she would not stop talking. After several warnings, Lillee lost the privilege of having a sleepover not only for that night, but for several.
As the kids ran up the stairs to bed tonight, Laila (9) and the boys were planning on sleeping on their floor, and the drama began.
Lillee wanted so bad to join them, but because of her prior behavior, could not. After a few trips up the stairs to calm her down and get her back in her own bed, she finally says to me between sobs, “Daddy, I want you to be nice.”
Translation: “Let me have my way.”
And now I am at the computer writing about it, because it reminds me of the times when life’s not quite working out how I think it should. I turn to God and say, “Daddy, I want you to be nice.”
Translation: “I want my way.”
And He says, “I’m trying to teach you something and ‘nice’ won’t do it.”
So hang in there, love God and obey Him, and everything will work not necessarily for the “nice,” but definitely for the “good.” (Romans 8:28)
