Bye-Bye Easter Eggs, Hello Spring Spheres?

by on Apr.15, 2011, under My Thoughts, Random

I think most people are crazy, maybe because I think I am, but everyone knows ‘Merry Christmas’ offends some people because the word ‘Christ’ is in it, but how does ‘Easter Egg’ offend?  I don’t know, maybe we should ask the nuts at the Seattle school districts after they encouraged volunteers to refer to  Easter Eggs as, get this,  ‘Spring Spheres.’  Yeah, because that just rolls off the old tongue.

An article by The Star (article found here) got their information from an unnamed girl from an unnamed school, so we can only assume here, but heck, let’s ride this pony.  If we are going to start renaming every holiday with any religious or offensive reference, we have to be able to do better than ‘Happy Spring Sphere Day’ or some crap like that.

So, what do you suggest?  And it can be any holiday, and remember, the name can’t be offensive to anyone.  here are a few of mine:

St. Valentine’s Day = “buy my wife something nice so I can get lucky day”

Ash Wednesday = “recognize that I may have offended an unnamed, possibly non existent deity or other superior life form and tell him, her, or or it that I sincerely apologize day”

St. Patrick’s Day – “Buy your friend a Guinness Day”

Memorial Day – “Celebrate those who have died to protect freedoms we are currently throwing away day”

Independence Day – “Celebrate our rebellion day”

Labor Day – “celebrate that unions can opt out of Obamacare but no one else can day”

Thanksgiving – “Thanks for ‘giving’ us all this land day”

Christmas – “Happy baby Jesus day, who may or may not have been deity, and may or may not have died for your sins if you wanted him to and if you don’t well you get to buy your kids presents today anyway since our fore fathers thought it a significant enough date to give pretty much everyone in the country a couple days off for it day

And a funny note, nothing really came up when I Googled “spring spheres.”

We Paid Off Our Van!

by on Jan.20, 2011, under My Thoughts, Random

Our last stub, the van is now ours! This is the day the Lord has made! Rejoice!  Beth and I made our last payment on our van!  Woo-hoo!  We paid it off nine months early!  It wasn’t easy.  I had to take a second job, but man is that $400 a month we will now have AWESOME!!!!

We are getting out of debt because we want to bless others and not just buy loads of crap for ourselves.  The borrower is slave to the lender, and soon enough, we will be debt free but the house!  it will be a total turn around of $1100 a month when we get there!

Thanks to my wife Beth, and my kids for putting up with daddy working a couple nights a week delivering pizzas.  I’m so sorry I got us in this hole to start with, but hopefully I teach you better so you are NEVER in this place.

Also, thanks to Dave Ramsey, you inspire me, and your teachings have changed our family tree!

Venom and Song Releases Today!!

by on Jun.22, 2010, under Random

Storm Amazon.com With Us!

venom and song amazon blitz

Mark Your Calendars! Light the torches and gather the pitchforks!

Tuesday, June 22nd at 7pm, EST we will storm the Cybergates of Amazon.com and seek to propel Venom and Song to great heights on the Amazon Bestseller Chart!

Last year, we Blitzed for Curse of the Spider King, and the ranking went from 73,000th to 365th in one 24 hour period! And that thanks only to my generous readers, their friends and family.

This year, we are defining and actual time to shoot for. This will concentrate the effect of book purchases and hopefully launch Venom and Song into the top 100 or even better!

If you are planning to purchase Venom & Song anyway, would you please consider purchasing it from Amazon.com. It’s very important to have the purchases fall between 7-8pm on Tuesday, June 22nd. This maximizes the jump up on the Bestseller list.

Why do this?

Books that hit high on Amazon’s bestseller list get seen by a LOT more people. That exposure tends to generate LOTS more sales, which of course, starts a wonderful cycle. High purchases in the first week of release also tells Amazon that this is a book to push, so Amazon tends to include it in their eMailings, etc. And better still, the opening sales tells the publisher to plug in more marketing muscle to a book that is succeeding. So please consider joining us on June 22nd for the 2nd Annual Amazon BLITZ.

Matisyahu – One Day

by on Feb.10, 2010, under Random, Videos

There are some songs that just say what needs to be said. This is along the lines of Black Eyed Peas’s Where is the Love? Adding to the impact of the song, there is a killer beat box solo about 2:30 into it.

Leave any thoughts.  Click for more Matisyahu’s album Light.

“Visualization of the Bible”

by on Jan.25, 2008, under Random

I find this amazing! My brother-in-law Jason sent me a link to this picture by Chris Harrison. It has the books of the Bible on the bottom and an arc is drawn from one book to another. The arcs represent every time a verse is referenced in another book. I am going to contact him to see what a poster sized print would be. Enjoy!

Lord of the Rings

by on Jan.05, 2008, under Random

We had Christmas at my parent’s house today as they were at my brother’s in Alabama for the actual day. I have long wanted to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and that is now a possibility. My brother and Dad went in together and got me the 50th Anniversary edition Lord of the Rings.

Wow! What an amazing book. I estimate it takes me a year or two to get through the 1100 plus pages of this monster.

THANKS DAD and MATT!
